During Sony’s panel at Brazil’s CCXP Comic Con Experience held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Tom Hardy via a prerecorded message, assured fans that he would due justice to the role and bring plenty of ‘dark humor’ to the part. Hardy also confirmed that the film will be inspired by the Lethal Protector mini-series. According to Screenrant: “Hardy also suggested the film would be “important” to the Marvel Universe.”
Written by David Michelinie with the talents of artists Mark Bagley, Ron Lim and Sam Delarosa, the 1993 six-issue series follows Eddie Brock aka Venom to San Francisco after striking a truce with Spider-man. Brock is then tracked down by the Life Foundation. The organization hopes to study and weaponize the symbiote and inevitably leads to the creation of Agony, Scream, Phage, Riot and Lasher.
It’s long been rumored that Carnage would be the villain of the film and that actor Riz Ahmed had been cast as Cletus Kasady, the psychopath that the Carnage symbiote effectively attaches itself to. So perhaps the actions of the Life Foundation will serve as the origin of Carnage in this take.
Tom Hardy is currently on the Venom set filming in Atlanta. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer and is expected to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.
